In 1959, San Luis Obispo County secured the rights to 17,500 acre-feet of water per year from Lake Nacimiento. Today, plans are in place to construct the single largest project that San Luis Obispo County has ever undertaken, the Nacimiento Water Project. The Nacimiento Water Project (NWP) consists of a 45-mile pipeline to deliver supplemental water to Paso Robles, Templeton, Atascadero, San Luis Obispo, and County Service Area 10, and Benefit Zone A. When finished, the project will include three tanks, three pump stations, and a multi-port intake at the lake.
