Important News Release:
The San Luis Obispo County Department of Public Works reports that the construction of the Nacimiento Water Project, Intake, by James W. Fowler Co., calls for the construction of a 180-foot shaft near Lake Nacimiento Dam. Excavation of this shaft began in January 2008, and now requires the use of blasting to facilitate rock removal from the shaft bottom excavation. Blasting will commence on Thursday, June 5, 2008. Motorists should expect traffic delays on this portion of Lake Nacimiento Drive of approximately 1 to 5 minutes during detonations. Blasting may occur twice per week between the hours of 9:00am and 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. The detonation will be clearly audible, but negligible ground vibration is anticipated outside of the construction fence perimeter. Blasting in this location may continue until mid-August 2008. Please click here for the most current information on blasting at the Intake site.

The purpose of this site is to provide project information to the public. As construction proceeds, this page will be updated with the dates of anticipated construction, areas affected, street detours, closures, and areas of completion.

In 1959, San Luis Obispo County secured the rights to 17,500 acre-feet of water per year from Lake Nacimiento. Today, plans are in place to construct the single largest project that San Luis Obispo County has ever undertaken, the Nacimiento Water Project. The Nacimiento Water Project (NWP) consists of a 45-mile pipeline to deliver supplemental water to Paso Robles, Templeton, Atascadero, San Luis Obispo, and County Service Area 10, and Benefit Zone A. When finished, the project will include three tanks, three pump stations, and a multi-port intake at the lake.
